I bought this cooktop to replace an Amana wire coil downdraft cooktop. It looked gorgeous when first installed...but gets dirty quickly. At first, I thought i'd Made a huge mistake. As it turns out, I just needed to adjust my cleaning protocol. I use a Norwex microfiber Envirocloth, wet with hot water, to wipe it down, and then the Norwex glass cloth to polish it up. It is very quick and gets it to an acceptable every day level of clean. I use the cooktop cleaner and razor blade if it is messier than normal, and it has been very successful. We've also been happy with our results cooking on it.

Very Nice Cooktop

We've had this installed and working in our updated kitchen for about 5 months now, and overall its a joy to use. The burner elements heat up quickly and evenly, and they are relatively easy to control... it takes longer to adjust heat lower than for elements to get hotter. The vent fan is great - works much better than I'd anticipated it would, and it really does suck smoke and steam right out - even works well on medium, and not too loud either. if there are to small downsides... 1 - its hard to keep looking clean. a problem with all cooktops like this i guess, but it seems like I'm having to clean it as soon as it cools down after any use with spill or splatter...(don't try to clean when hot - makes things MUCH worse) Unfortunately, the lovely black surface shows off every spec of grease/food particle. 2 - The knob for the double burner is not intuitive... to use in single mode, you need to turn it to the opposite direction from all the other knobs - and we've had some surprises with over or under-heating. Otherwise, if you like smooth top burners, this is an excellent choice.

Stainless Steel Strips are a safety hazard

Purchased my cooktop from Home Depot and had it installed last week. First time I cleaned the cooktop I noticed that the four stainless steel strip edges are very sharp and if I am not careful, I could slice my fingers. Called your customer service and advise of a manufacturing default. Your service tech came yesterday and acknowledged the safety issue. They are ordering a new cooktop. Hope the new one is better????

Bought this a few weeks ago as we are updating the kitchen and needed a downdraft cooktop to replace one that was28 years old. Heats & cools down much faster than old one. A bit concerned about keeping black glass looking good, though, as it seems that it will scratch easily. Only time will tell how well it holds up with daily use.

How do you clean in the vent?

I just purchased a new house about 3 months ago and this stove came with the house. The previous owners of the house never used the stove, not once. I agree with the other review is that it is extremely difficult to clean without having any streaks or lint but my major problem is the smell coming from inside the vent. How do you clean away the residue and the grease that is inside the vent?? I'm also petite 5'1 so my arm isn't long enough and my husbands arm is to big. I'm starting to get a foul odor in my kitchen and I need to figure out how to clean this, does anybody have any recommendations?

Super pour installer avec évacuation sans conduit

Je souhaitais installer une plaque de cuisson sur un îlot sans avoir de gros ventilateur. J'ai réussi à installer cette plaque de cuisson avec le ventilateur descendant et surtout avec la Trousse d'installation sans conduit en option qui filtre et fait recirculer l'air sans conduit. Cela m'a permit d'installer cette surface de cuisson dans ma cuisine avec des contraintes concernant les conduits. Cela fonctionne très bien et j'adore le look.

Excellent Cooktop

I've been using my cooktop for over two months. I was replacing a 26 year old Amana downdraft cooktop. Had I known what this Kitchen Aide cooktop would do for my kitchen and cooking I would of replaced my old cooktop years ago! First it is beautiful and quickly updated the look of my kitchen. Beyond aesthetics it is perfect for the home chef! 5 versatile burners which heat fast and the downdraft vent is very powerful, haven't even turned it past medium. I read the reviews before ordering and my biggest fear was scratches and cleaning. After 2 months of heavy use not one scratch and cleaning is super easy! Wipe it down after use and if any marks are left simply use a little of the Cermabrite, use the scrubber and wipe till it becomes a dry white film. Use one piece of paper towel to buff off the film and the cooktop is left looking like brand new! I gave ease of use a 4 as the burners may be hard to identify for older eyes, my model does not have the white outlines as in some pics as to where the burners are.

This is a great cooktop that performs very well. We did go with the ductless option which performs better than expected but not perfect. The filters are also slightly difficult to find and expensive. But that's the price we paid to have a "clean" look in the kitchen. Recommended.

We bought this KitchenAid cooktop to replace one that didn't have the downdraft feature. I'm thrilled with how this one looks and performs. The downdraft is powerful, and the elements heat quickly and cook evenly. As compared to the previous cooktop, the KitchenAid glass top seems to clean up more easily and the markings around the knobs are easier to read. Very pleased with this purchase!

Bought this electrical cooktop with downdraft about a month ago. It's got 5 burners. So far it's has been working great. The only thing is we haven't figured out a good way to clean it and make it spotless. It shows grease easily. Have tried several products designed to clean the ceramic glass cooktop but not satisfied with any yet. Still looking for a good cleaning product.

Not pleased with the glass finish

I've had this cooktop for 2-1/2 months. I am only somewhat pleased with its performance, though it takes some getting used to. It's not like induction cooktops I've had in the past (two, both another brand). The knobs' off position is down, not up, and the setting markings around the knobs are faint and difficult to see. There is only one "hot" indicator light rather than one for each element. The main reason for this rating of the unit is that I find the glass top difficult to clean. I cannot get it clean, that is, free of streaks and oily residue, using anything I would normally use or what's recommended. (I'm not talking about burned-on stuff--I don't let that happen.) It streaks terribly, collects lint that's almost impossible to remove, and I have to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to clean it. I do like the various sizes of the elements and dual function of some of them. Bottom line, I'm disappointed in it and wouldn't buy it again or recommend it, sorry to say.
